Gift vouchers

Give someone their family history

Some presents get used up. This one gets passed down.

A gift voucher from Ancestry Search Services pays for a family history traced from the records: a tree on the wall, or a book on the shelf, for the person who has always meant to find out where they came from.

How it works

  1. Choose the package

Bronze, Silver or Gold, at the same fixed price as on the Services & Prices page. Not sure which? Get in touch and tell me who it is for; I will suggest one.

  2. I send the voucher

A gift voucher printed on card, with the recipient's name handwritten, in an envelope and posted to the address you give me. If the gift is needed within three days, I can send a digital voucher by email instead. Payment is by PayPal or bank transfer, and the voucher goes out once it has arrived.

  3. They get in touch when they are ready

The recipient emails me, with the code if it is a digital voucher, we arrange the consultation, and the research begins. Nothing is rushed and nothing expires for twelve months.

What you can give

The voucher itself

A specimen of the digital voucher. Every real one carries the recipient's name and a code that is matched to them in my records.

Most vouchers are printed on card, with the recipient's name handwritten, and posted in an envelope to the address you give me. The one shown here is the digital voucher, which I send by email when the gift is needed within three days.

Timing

Research takes time that cannot honestly be shortened, so a voucher is often the better gift: it fixes the price today and lets the recipient start when they are ready. If you want the finished tree itself under the tree, the lead times on the Services & Prices page are the ones that matter.

Bronze
Approximately 2 to 4 weeks
Silver
Approximately 4 to 8 weeks
Gold
Approximately 3 to 4 months

Left it late? A card saying the search has begun can go under the tree, and the finished tree arrives in January as a second occasion.

Been given a voucher?

Email me at info@ancestrysearchservices.co.uk with a sentence about who you would like me to trace. I will reply within two working days to arrange the consultation.

If you have a printed card, tell me your name as it is written on the card and who gave it to you. If you have a digital voucher, include its code: two or three letters, a dash, and two groups of four letters and numbers. The code is matched to you personally and can be used once.

Past clients sometimes receive a digital £25 voucher to pass to a friend. It works the same way: email me with the code.

The terms, in plain English

A gift voucher is valid for twelve months from the date written on it. One voucher per booking, redeemed against the package price. Not exchangeable for cash. A printed card is for the person named on it. A digital voucher is only valid when its code is in my records, so a photograph or copy of one is not a voucher.

The £25 referral voucher is always digital. It takes £25 off any one package, or off a Bronze, Silver or Gold gift voucher. It cannot be added to a gift voucher on the same booking. It is valid until the date written on it, is not exchangeable for cash, and is only valid when its code is in my records.

If a line cannot be traced as far as hoped, the research and the finished piece are still delivered with everything that was found; the voucher is for the package, not a guarantee of how far back the records go.

Questions about vouchers

Can I give a voucher for an amount rather than a package?

Not at the moment. Each voucher is for a whole package so the recipient knows exactly what they have been given.

Does the voucher need to be used by Christmas?

No. It is valid for twelve months from the date of issue, so a Christmas voucher can become a summer project.

What if the recipient already knows some of their family history?

Good. The consultation starts from whatever they know, and the research begins where their knowledge ends.
